If you have a missing tooth or even several missing teeth, it would be unsurprising to find yourself searching for a dentist in Glasgow who can provide treatment with dental implants. Perhaps you don’t currently have a tooth missing but have been made aware that an extraction might be needed, and you are planning in advance. Here at Buttercup 7 Day Dental, we understand that you might feel a lack of confidence due to missing teeth, and we would be thrilled to help you get this back!

Of course, it is essential to recognise that sometimes dental implants may not be a recommendable course of treatment for your particular needs. To establish the suitability of dental implants for you, please book an appointment with one of our qualified dentists. Our dentist in Glasgow will most likely wish to examine your mouth and teeth thoroughly and discuss your history (dental and/or medical) in order to advise you further.

What can I expect from dental implant treatment?

Our dentist in Glasgow will be equipped to give you a more detailed explanation of what you can personally expect from this type of treatment. A general overview will be given as follows:

An initial consultation with one of our friendly dentists will help to establish the suitability of dental implants for your dental needs. During this appointment, it may be possible for a treatment plan to be formed to help you know what to expect the timings of your treatment to be like. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions which may have come to you about dental implants and how they can work for you.

When treatment begins, the first step is for the titanium screws to be implanted into your jawbone; local anaesthesia will be utilised during this appointment. The screws are either screwed or tapped into the jawbone, and they will function in a similar way to the natural tooth root when adequate healing has taken place. Sometimes, depending on the situation, temporary implants can be used while the implantation site heals.

A period of time is given between the implantation of the screws and the following steps to allow for healing to take place. Once adequately healed, the abutment (a metal rod which connects the screw and the visible prosthetic) and the crown or denture can be fitted. The abutment is placed into the screw and creates the surface to which the visible prosthetic adheres.

Are there any additional advantages to dental implant treatment?

In addition to replacing your missing natural teeth, these implants can be beneficial in improving your ability to eat and drink as you wish. Often we find that patients have been unable to enjoy their usual diets due to loose, damaged or missing teeth. Because dental implants function in a similar way to natural teeth, you should be able to enjoy these dietary choices once again.

Similarly, your confidence in your hygiene practices may be restored, thus improving the level of oral hygiene you can achieve; this is because you may be less fearful of knocking your tooth out or damaging your exposed gums. If your tooth has been knocked out in an injury, the implanted screws may be advantageous to your situation because they can promote bone growth and bond to the jaw bone in a process called osseointegration. Therefore, if your jaw bone has been damaged alongside your tooth loss, dental implants could benefit you.

If you are keen to find out more information about this, or any other treatment we offer at Buttercup 7 Day Dental, you are very welcome to give us a call or visit us in person.
